Configure external DNS with digital ocean DNS extension on Plesk

Wondering how to configure the external DNS with the digital ocean DNS extension on Plesk. before I dig deeper into the main topic let me give a small introduction regarding DNS. Before that, if you require any kind of assistance regarding the implementation of the extension on Plesk, please try to contact our Plesk server management team for further clarification and get it done on your behalf.

The DNS stands for Domain name system. The DNS is mainly used to translate the domain names (www.example.com) into IP addresses (157,240,23,35) that which computer can understand and providers the required information to a user.

what makes Plesk a DNS server resolver

  • It can be as a backup server.
  • Delivers quick and direct translation services.
  • Easy-to-handle translation services on a remote server.

How does it work’s

Specific storage space which contains a specific domain address in the file is called domain zones. The DNS process involves converting a hostname or the domain name (www.google.com) into the computer language (IP address like 192.184.1.1) each internet device will have an IP address based on it can easily access the appropriate internet resources. There are two types of DNS servers.

  1. Root DNS servers
  2. DNS servers (lower-level DNS servers)

The root DNS servers refer to the hierarchically which contains the entire DNS database and corresponding IP address for all domain names.

For Example, when the user wants to load a webpage like www.example.com on the web browser it will interact with the internet-based IP address and redirect it to locate the example.com webpage.

DNS servers store DNS databases in which the server are owned by business entities who have been registered their computers on the DNS system. They use to run DNS server software to manage the DNS resolution process. Each DNS server will have public IP and vital databases of a different host which includes network names and addresses.

This will communicate between the user system and the DNS server. Acting as a DNS client the web browser will request a DNS server from the user’s internet device. Based on the request the server will check out the internal DNS database to match the IP address.

In case, the server fails to identify the match it will be forward the request to another DNS server. If the matching IP address is not found then the request will be escalated to the root server which contains the globe DNS database.

Once it receives the domain and the IP address the information will be accessible to a web browser through the route of the DNS network. The whole process is known as forward DNS.
